The Kingdom Behind the Screen - A True Story
The Kingdom Behind the Screen
What began with a message connected to Canada and the Bank of Montreal (BMO) grew into an international trail of banking screens, official-looking documents, WhatsApp messages, checks, shipping records, receipts, and money transfers stretching across multiple countries.
In The Kingdom Behind the Screen, Annette Carter tells the true story of how she was drawn into what appeared to be an elaborate financial network involving people and institutions across Canada, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, China, the Bahamas, the United States, Malaysia, Algeria, and the Netherlands.
As requests for money continued, Annette began saving everything—names, telephone numbers, banking information, payment records, screenshots, messages, and documents. When the explanations stopped making sense, she stopped sending money and began demanding answers.
She contacted banks and government agencies and tried to determine who created the banking screens, who controlled the receiving accounts, who was behind the messages, and where the money ultimately went.
Written as a dark modern fairytale based on a true story, The Kingdom Behind the Screen takes readers inside a digital world where appearances can be manufactured, trust can be exploited, and one woman’s determination to preserve the evidence becomes her greatest weapon.
Selected original documentary evidence is included. Additional supporting records have been preserved.
